Florian-Jan Ostrowski studied history, prehistory, and historical archaeology at the universities of Vienna, Warsaw, Veliko Tarnovo and Tübingen. He is currently a research assistant at the Institute of History, University of Vienna and is writing a doctoral thesis on archaeology as media culture. He is interested in material culture, the history of archaeology, memory and food culture in Eastern Europe, and heavy metal music.
